Twelve Watercolors: Poem Illustrations
Painted in 2022, while I grew and sat on a weird collection of poetry that became my book of poems.
I enjoyed illustrating these in a pique of intense artistic focus, in a week, then did not pick up the brush again for a year.
Looking back, these are not even my favorite, I am not sure why these are the ones chosen above others for artwork; but alas, I find I cannot often read my own mind. These may have been the poems that came fully formed with an image in my head, so were most easily depicted, but I cannot know.
The first eight of these are available in my shop as high quality giclée prints on cold pressed watercolor paper. The last four I have strange feelings about, perhaps they were not what I intended, so I have not printed them.
Media and Process:
Paper— watercolor paper I had on hand; nothing fancy.
Pencil— beginning with a gentle sketch, setting up framing, banners.
Watercolor— continuing with watercolor, filling in, setting up stakes, contrast.
Erase— went back with a kneadable eraser and removed remaining pencil.
Pen— finishing with lines, words, discovering detail. Hid my initials.
